Remembering Eva Kubik
We are sorry to report that we have some sad news. Our friend Eva Kubik died unexpectedly in her sleep on December 18th.
Although Eva was not a member of the working triad, she was close friends with Lois Holden, also a long time Cub member and our liaison to Community Works. They were both retired social workers.
Lois herself passed away approximately 20 yrs. ago. Eva volunteered to replace her friend as Cubs liaison to Community Works, for which we are very grateful.
Eva had an extremely difficult life as a child. Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1944 during the Nazi regime. In time, she and her family escaped to West Germany and then emigrated legally to the USA in 1955.
Eva’s parents settled their family in Ashburnham, MA where she attended Cushing Academy. She graduated from Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia, then went on to study Philosophy at Harvard School of Divinity. From there to Boston College, where she received her Master’s degree in Social Work and ultimately to attain her LICSW.
Eva retired from her position sometime in the 90’s to care for her sick mother. Sadly, Eva herself developed diabetes and as a result eventually became legally blind. In spite of this, Eva took the train and subway several times a month into Boston (an hour & a half trip), to attend meetings of the Board of Directors and Committees for Community Works on behalf of CUB.
Eva had a great personality, sense of humor, and a ready smile. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Rest In Peace dear Eva.
